Our surgeons have extensive experience in all areas of elective and emergency surgery, each with a specific area of specialist expertise, allowing us to offer our patients the highest standard of care.
Our surgeons frequently collaborate with other recognized specialist veterinarians in the fields of internal medicine, emergency and critical care, sports medicine and rehabilitation, ophthalmology, reproduction and dentistry. Such collaboration allows us to achieve the best success rates possible for our patients.
The surgery department at Grosswallstadt Equine Hospital consists of two padded boxes used for induction and recovery from general anaesthesia. Our fully equipped equine operating theatre performs many surgeries under general anaesthesia. An overhead electronic rail system can move horses into and out of the padded anaesthesia induction and recovery boxes. To ensure the safety of our patients, all general anaesthetics are performed by our highly trained anaesthetists using the latest and most up-to-date patient monitoring equipment. The patients undergo assisted recovery from general anaesthesia using a purpose-designed head and tail rope system, which a trained operator controls at all times.
Due to advances in equine surgery, our surgeons now, however, can perform many surgical procedures such as fracture repairs and upper respiratory and obstetrical surgeries under standing sedation, negating the need for general anaesthesia and maximizing patient safety.
The post-operative care is provided by our large team of nursing staff and housevets under the supervision of the surgeons.
